NERUDA UPCOMING EVENTS & NEWS: Midwest Microbreweries with Joe Billhartz: On Thursday, August 28, 2008, Our friend Joe presents and end-of-summer five-course dinner with a selection of beers from three up-and-coming Midwestern microbreweries. Menu to be posted.... Neruda is Open and Serving Great Food Monday through Saturday: Of course, that shouldn't surprise anyone, but I've been hearing rumors that we closed. We are very much alive and well and enjoying our work. As many of you know, I have seven employees who have worked at Neruda for over ten years, and next year I will have another two ten year employees on the payroll. As Mark Twain had occasion to state, "The report of my death was an exaggeration." (New York Journal, 1897)
RECENT PAST EVENTS AT NERUDA: Beer Dinner with Joe Billhartz: On June 26, 2008, Joe Billhartz, of Specialty Distributing, hosted the first Neruda Beer Dinner of the Summer with his hand-picked selection of International Beers. Chef Rick Counts prepared a five-course meal to match the beers. Thanks, Joe. To see the menu, click here. The Wines of Merryvale Vineyards: On Thursday, April 24, 2008, Neruda presented a five-course meal paired with five wines from Merryvale Vineyards. Mark Fritsch of Callison Distributors hosted the event for us. To see the menu & wine selections, click here. Complimentary Premier Bourbon Tasting: , On Tuesday, April 8th, at 5:30 p.m., Ian Warford of Koerner Distributors presented a premier bourbon tasting featurng seven fine American bourbons from the Koerner Distributors book. About 30 or 40 customers joined us for this casual, stand-up event with light appetizers provided by Neruda. Thanks to Ian for making it happen. The Wines of Neibaum-Coppola: On Tuesday, February 26, 2008, Neruda presented a five-course meal paired with six of the the wine's of Frances Ford Coppola's Neibaum-Coppola Winery. Lindsay Pierce, Regional Representative for Coppola, was going to host the event, but wrecked her rented car in Chicago the day of the event, so local somellier Ted Fuehne stepped up to the plate. Big Red III - First Winemaker's Dinner of the Year: On Thursday, January 24, 2008, Chris Rutter of Koerner Distributors hosted our annual Big Red Wine Dinner featuring five great wines paired with five outstanding courses. Thanks for Chris for hosting the event and entertaining us throughout the night, and thanks to Rick Counts for create the interesting and provocative menu. Neruda to Close for Lunch, Open Monday Evenings: On Monday, October 1, 2007, Neruda inaugurated a major schedule change when we closed our luncheon business and opened the restaurant for full-service dining on Monday evenings. I offer a word of "Thanks" to our regular lunch customers who have graced our door over the years. I know that many of you will be sorry to see Neruda end our lunch business, but I hope that you will come back from time to time and enjoy us for a leisurely dinner night. Wine Dinner on Thursday, November 1, 2007: David Coy of The Aussie Premium Wine Collection brought his knowledge and spirit to our first announced wine dinner of the fall season. As you can guess from the name, all the wines hailed from Australia, and as you may suspect, we had a great time. To view the menus and the wine selections, click here. Neruda Ten Years Old: On Saturday, August 11, 2007, Neruda celebrated a major milestone when we turned the page on ten years of fine dining in Edwardsville. Neruda has been successful because of the commitment of our customers in Edwardsville, the Metro East , and from across the river in St. Louis. My hat is off to the many who have made Neruda their second home.
